Micah Richards is a centre-back option that should interest Celtic.

It’s no secret that Celtic need defenders – and fast.
With Dedryck Boyata angling for a move away from Parkhead, it leaves Brendan Rodgers with Kristoffer Ajer, Jozo Simunovic, Jack Hendry and Marvin Compper if the Belgian goes.
That’s hardly a who’s who of stellar centre-back options and the Hoops would be wise to improve on that list before the transfer window shuts.
One man who should interest Rodgers is Aston Villa centre-back Micah Richards.
The 30-year-old hasn’t played a competitive game for the West Midlands side since 2016 but the talent is undoubtedly there and maybe a man-manager of Rodgers’s vintage could bring him back to life in Glasgow.
The former Manchester City star is earning around £35,000 per week at Villa [The Birmingham Mail] and although some Celtic fans wouldn’t be mad on the idea, he’s clearly a better option than Hendry or Compper for a start.
After all, this is a player with 13 England caps – 13 more than Hoops star Scott Sinclair – and despite not playing a great deal of football for the best part of two years, he still has something to offer.
Even if Boyata stays, failing to sign another centre-back would be suicidal by Rodgers – who, according to The Mirror, tried to sign him at Liverpool in 2014 – and Richards, who played with Boyata at Manchester City, really wouldn’t be a bad option at all.
