Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to strengthen his centre-back options during the January transfer window.
The Record reported that Moore is rated at £5 million but the Hoops were ready to make a move – but perhaps another Championship defender should be on their radar as Rodgers looks to bolster his options.
The Daily Mirror (print edition; 27th November 2017; page 48) reported that Sheffield United were planning to make a £750,000 bid for Brentford captain John Egan as Chris Wilder’s men looked to capitalise on their current position in the second tier.
Given Egan’s quality, it seems highly unlikely that such a bid will be accepted by the Bees, but perhaps Celtic should look to make their own bid in the hope that they will be able to land him for significantly less than Moore’s reported £5 million valuation.
The 25-year-old is a stalwart of the Brentford side, taking the armband earlier this season when Harlee Dean left for Birmingham City, and is now involved with the Republic of Ireland side, having earned a couple of caps this year.
Egan has made 140 appearances in all competitions since the start of the 2014-15 so would perhaps provide some of the reliability that some of Celtic’s defenders have lacked in recent times due to injury. And with an international place to now try and hold onto and with Celtic able to offer European football, it could certainly be argued that the Bhoys could put an offer on the table that most would find tempting if they joined the race, so perhaps they should try and rival the Blades.
