Celtic were linked with a move for Danny Ings last summer.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has a serious shortage of centre-forward options at the moment.

The Northern Irishman only has 20-year-old Odsonne Edouard at his disposal, after losing Moussa Dembele in September, before Leigh Griffiths was ruled out for a number of months due to personal reasons.

The Celtic manager, whose side lost 2-0 at Hibernian on Sunday, confirmed last week that he was looking to sign not one, but two strikers in the January transfer window.

But if Rodgers could turn the clock back, you wonder if he would re-sign Danny Ings.

The Hoops were linked with a move for the Liverpool striker back in June, with Rodgers, who brought him to Anfield in 2015, ruling out a move via Sky Sports.

How he could do with him now.

Ings, who wound up joining Southampton on a season-long loan, is on fire at the moment and scored twice in Sunday’s 3-2 win over Arsenal.

In doing so, the English hitman took his tally to four goals in seven games for the relegation-threatened Saints.

He would’ve torn the Scottish Premiership a new one this season and although Rodgers can’t be blamed for failing to predict Griffiths’s situation, Dembele’s exit was hardly a massive surprise and maybe, just maybe, the Bhoys manager should have covered himself better.
