The Chelsea midfielder would be a superb signing for Celtic this summer.
Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers faces an extremely important summer transfer window, as he looks to freshen up his squad, ahead of what will surely be an extremely challenging campaign both domestically and abroad this term.
Celtic went the entire domestic campaign unbeaten last season, and they will be an even bigger scalp than they already were this time around, with every club determined to be the team who ends the Glasgow giant’s impressive record.
With this in mind, it will be vital for Rodgers to add some genuine quality to his ranks, and an interesting option for them would be Chelsea’s rising star Nathaniel Chalobah, who has been linked with a plethora of Premier League clubs, including Swansea City, Watford and West Brom, according to the Mirror.
Nathaniel Chalobah
The 22-year-old is an incredibly gifted player, and can operate in various positions in midfield, but is perhaps most effective when deployed in the more disciplined deep-lying midfield role.
Whilst Rodgers already has plenty of central midfielders at his disposal at Parkhead, Chalobah would arguably be an upgrade on the Celtic boss’ current options.
The Blues man is accomplished when in possession of the football, and plays with a certain amount of bite and tenacity that would be ideally suited to the Scottish game.
The England under-21 international is entering the final year of his current deal at Stamford Bridge, so it shouldn’t take an extortionate amount of money to prise him away from west London, unless the Hoops become entrenched in a bidding war for the 22-year-old.
With such a long and punishing campaign ahead for Celtic, the addition of someone with such quality, and high energy levels could prove to be vital to their chances of success this term.
And if Rodgers manages to convince him to move to Parkhead instead of another Premier League club, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance for the Hoops.
