Bonatini is reportedly out of favour at Wolves, and Celtic need a striker.
Celtic’s win over RedBull Leipzig gave the Hoops hope of qualifying for the knockout stage of the Europa League, meaning football after Christmas for just the second time under Brendan Rodgers.
But it poses a problem. To continue to fight on three fronts, with the Scottish League Cup final taking place in December, depth is an absolute necessity – something Celtic do not boast up front.
Leigh Griffiths remains sidelined through injury while Odsonne Edouard has suffered the odd knock here and there. The duo have little cover, with Scott Sinclair struggling for form after the sale of Moussa Dembele.
Celtic desperately need another striker to provide competition up front, as well as cover as the Bhoys continue to fight for a third successive treble as well as the Europa League.
It should convince Rodgers to look down south and lure Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Leo Bonatini north of the border, as Turkish outlet Fotospor claim Galatasaray are attempting to lure the Brazilian out of the Midlands.
The 24-year-old has fallen down the pecking order this season after the arrival and form of Mexico international Raul Jimenez on loan from Benfica. It has seen Bonatini manage just 128 minutes of Premier League football.
Bonatini starred for Wolves in their promotion campaign, scoring 12 goals and adding six assists. Though he is not renowned for his goal-poaching, last-man style of play, he contributes to attacks and gets those around him involved.
It allows him to play out wide and in the number 10 role, too. So, bringing in a striker that will not be sulking on the bench because he can play in other positions is a major plus for Rodgers.
Landing Bonatini, perhaps on a loan deal in January, would be an excellent addition to his strike force.
