If Celtic fail in their attempt to sign Scott McKenna from Aberdeen, should they consider Spurs defender Juan Foyth instead?
Having also turned down bids from Hull City and Swansea City, the Dons have made it clear they do not want to lose McKenna before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
This will frustrate Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers, who is keen to add defensive reinforcements after a quiet summer so far in the transfer market.
Viable alternative?
Perhaps Rodgers could dip into the Premier League loan market again and make a move to try and sign Juan Foyth from Tottenham Hotspur on a temporary deal.
Previously linked with Leeds United, as reported by football.london, that move now seems unlikely after Marcelo Bielsa said he wouldn’t use his “personal relationship” with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino to bring players to Elland Road for “professional reasons”.
Yet Foyth remains down the pecking order at Tottenham, especially now Toby Alderweireld looks set to be given a second chance at the club after being strongly linked with an exit this summer.
Although at 20-years-old the Argentine is inexperienced, the centre-back is also highly rated by Pochettino and by the likes of Paris Saint-Germain who tried to sign the youngster last year before he eventually made the switch to North London.
