The old Everton manager expressed an interest in the Celtic job this week.
David Moyes expressed his interest in the Celtic job earlier this week [BBC Radio 5 Live].
Neil Lennon is back at Parkhead on a caretaker basis but if he loses against Rangers tomorrow then that wouldn’t be great in terms of boosting his chances of a long-term role.
If Moyes does get the job, and there’s no indication that Celtic are even interested in the Scot, then it could be a good appointment.
And if it happens, should he bring Phil Jagielka to Glasgow this summer?
The Everton centre-back, who earns £50,000 per week on Merseyside [Spotrac], turns 37 in August but there might be a season or two left in the old dog, who is out of contract at Goodison Park this summer.
Plus, the Hoops are going to need a few new centre-backs and someone as experienced as the 40-cap England international really wouldn’t be a bad idea.
Dedryck Boyata looks set to leave on a Bosman, while Filip Benkovic will return to parent club Leicester City in the summer.
Whoever replaces Brendan Rodgers on a permanent basis, they’re going to need central defenders and if Moyes becomes Celtic manager, Jagielka really isn’t a bad shout.
Okay so he wouldn’t be a regular feature in the first XI, but at this moment in time he’s certainly a better option than Marvin Compper, Jack Hendry and Jozo Simunovic. That alone is food for thought.
