James Forrest’s current Celtic deal expires in 2019, so should the Hoops look to discuss fresh terms with the winger?
During Ronny Deila’s time as Celtic boss, it appeared that James Forrest’s exit was almost inevitable with the winger struggling to live up to his early promise and falling out of favour under the Norwegian.
However, Brendan Rodgers’ arrival last year proved to be the catalyst for a drastic turnaround in the 26-year-old’s fortunes and he is now a genuine rival for the likes of Scott Sinclair and Patrick Roberts for a place in the Hoops team.
He signed a new three-year deal last summer shortly after Rodgers’ arrival, as reported by Sky Sports. And just one year into that new deal, it could be argued that the Bhoys should be considering offering him a brand new contract as he approaches the final 18 months of his current terms.
Forrest has been excellent this season, scoring three times in the Scottish Premiership to help Rodgers’ men to go into the international break three points clear at the top of the table.
And he showed that he is able to raise his game for the fixtures where Celtic are underdogs, as he provided a stunning assist in the Champions League group-stage clash with Bayern Munich at Parkhead last month.
With virtually everything seeming to go right for Celtic at the moment, the Hoops should look to capitalise on the momentum they currently have by rewarding one of their most improved players with a new contract.
