Glasgow Rangers wanted to sign Brentford’s Jota during the January transfer window, but now Celtic should consider a move this summer.

Since Jota returned to Brentford following the end of his loan spell with Eibar in January, he has hardly been out of the headlines, having been on Rangers’ radar during the most recent window (via Daily Record), and then going on to enjoy a sensational run of form at Griffin Park after staying put.

And while that current run of form would surely rule out any chance the Gers had of reigniting their interest in a loan move, their Old Firm rivals Celtic should perhaps make them pay for their inability to get a deal done.

As mentioned, Jota has been brilliant in the Championship since returning from Spain. He has scored seven times in just nine league games for the Bees.

And while Brentford have the opportunity to extend the 25-year-old’s contract – which expires at the end of the season – by one year (via Get West London), the chance to join the Hoops would surely be an incredibly tempting one for the Spaniard.

With Patrick Roberts’ loan set to end this summer, Jota may be the ideal replacement for the Manchester City man at Parkhead, and the lure of winning trophies regularly, competing in the Champions League and becoming a part of one of the most impressive forward lines around would surely make it incredibly difficult for the playmaker to turn Celtic down if they moved for him.

And a great start if he joined the Hoops would undoubtedly help endear him to supporters, especially as their Old Firm rivals had wanted him but were unable to get a deal done.
