Siriki Dembele has handed in a transfer request, so should Brendan Rodgers consider targeting him for Celtic?

Of all the exciting youngsters currently coming through at Celtic, few look destined for a career quite as bright as Karamoko Dembele. The 15-year-old played for the Hoops’s under-20s side at the age of 13 and has had both England and Scotland tussling over getting him to play for their sides at youth level.

Celtic’s biggest challenge may well be holding onto the winger once he emerges into the first-team as he appears to have all the tools to make the grade with the Scottish Premiership champions, and it appears inevitable that other massive clubs will soon be sniffing around him if they are not already.

Dembele is a special talent, and his potential should perhaps tempt Brendan Rodgers to consider taking a gamble on his brother following the news, as reported by BBC Sport, that he has handed in a transfer request at his current club.

Siriki Dembele only joined Grimsby Town from the Nike Academy last year but has been extremely impressive, scoring four goals and contributing a handful of assists from the wing for the Mariners.

The Daily Mail reported that the 21-year-old has previously been on trial with Celtic, and Rodgers should consider making a move now that he is seemingly on the market.

The Grimsby Telegraph reported in December that Crystal Palace and Swansea City were both interested in handing Dembele the chance to make the move to the Premier League, so he is clearly a very talented prospect that could simply need the right coach to give him the chance to realise that potential.

Dembele is not going to be the kind of signing who could immediately expect to be in contention for a first-team spot, but he appears to have the attributes to make his way into Rodgers’ thinking – and perhaps having his brother in the side may also prove beneficial when it comes to trying to keep Karamoko Dembele in the future.

Following the end of Patrick Roberts’ loan spell, the Bhoys could certainly do with strengthening their attacking options in wide areas, and signing Dembele may perhaps be a risk that proves to be a shrewd investment if Celtic do decide to consider pursuing a deal for a player that has recently been linked with a Premier League move.
