Danny Drinkwater reportedly told he can leave Chelsea so should Celtic consider a move?
Danny Drinkwater’s time as a Chelsea player looks to be coming to an end, with the Daily Star claiming manager Maurizio Sarri is willing to let the midfielder leave this month.
The Blues have plenty of options in central midfield having signed Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic this summer and already having Ross Barkley, Cesc Fabregas, N’Golo Kante and Ruben Loftus-Cheek on the books.
That is why Sarri has made his mind up about Drinkwater and there has already been interest from the Bundesliga in the 28-year-old, with Schalke looking at the possibility of signing him.
What about Celtic?
The Bhoys could be in the market for a new midfield option, especially after failing to make the playoff phase of the Champions League following defeat to AEK Athens.
French outlet RMC Sport reported that Porto would ramp up their interest in Olivier Ntcham should Brendan Rodgers’ side fail to progress in the competition and it now remains to be seen if they make a move.
Having already lost Stuart Armstrong this summer, Rodgers is likely to need recruitment in the middle of the park and Drinkwater would bring quality and experience to the role.
Not only that but the Hoops manager has a good relationship with the hierarchy at Stamford Bridge from his own time working there as a coach and used that link to loan Charly Musonda last season.
A permanent deal for Drinkwater would be unlikely with the West Londoners having paid Leicester City £35m for the England international less than 12 months ago, but a temporary move would still represent quite the coup for Rodgers.
