Celtic are expected to add to their attack this summer.
Burnley veteran Jon Walters has been quoted by the Daily Mail as saying that he is “available to go” if any interested parties become interested – and Celtic should be one of those.
The 34-year-old joined Burnley last summer but has been forced to deal with a number of niggling injuries, which have prevented the Ireland international from having any kind of impact under Sean Dyche.
The Stoke City icon has managed just five appearances in all competitions for Burnley this season, and has now confirmed that he will be allowed to leave Turf Moor following what has been a failed move to the Clarets.
It should alert Brendan Rodgers at Celtic, who is likely to be on the lookout for cover in the final third after the club have lost Patrick Roberts and Charly Musonda – with both players returning to their parent clubs down south.
It leaves Celtic with just Scott Sinclair, James Forrest and Jonny Hayes out wide, with the latter suffering a broken leg towards the start of the season and failing to appear for the Hoops since.
Up front, Celtic do have plenty of options but both Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard are both at the start of their careers, aged just 21 and 20.
Celtic need an attacker that has shown he is capable of scoring at the highest level, and with Walters likely to be available for a nominal fee, surely Rodgers should pounce.
Adding a bit of proven experience in 51-time Ireland international Walters would provide Rodgers with cover in multiple positions on the pitch, but also benefit the Scottish champions on the training ground and in the dressing room.
