Reports coming out of The Sun on Sunday (06/05; page 65) at the weekend would have caught Celtic fans’ eyes as there were suggestions that Bournemouth and Watford are both weighing up £10 million moves for Callum McGregor during the summer.

McGregor has been superb this season for the Hoops, proving to be another of the players that Brendan Rodgers has taken to another level since he arrived at Parkhead in 2016.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is seen during a training session at Lennoxtown Training Centre on April 27, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

On his day, the 24-year-old can look almost unplayable and boasts a level of versatility that seems to make him incredibly important to Celtic’s squad as they look to battle on several fronts and maintain their dominance on the domestic stage.

Nevertheless, perhaps Celtic should seriously consider letting McGregor go if the Cherries or Hornets come in with any eight-figure bids during the upcoming window.

McGregor may kick on to another level next season, and thus keeping him could be a masterstroke. But there is no guarantee that the midfielder will be able to replicate his current standards next term given that he has previously struggled to establish himself in the side – 40 of his 110 Scottish Premiership appearances have come from the bench.

Callum McGregor scores for Celtic during the Champions League group B match between Celtic FC and Bayern Muenchen at Celtic Park on October 31, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Celtic look extremely strong in the middle of the park, so losing McGregor may not have to be a huge blow despite his impressive form, especially if Rodgers has a further £10 million to spend on strengthening the squad.

Selling McGregor has to be considered a gamble given how much improvement he has made, but if bids of £10 million do come in for the Hoops academy graduate, it would arguably be a mistake for Rodgers to not think about considering the offer.
