Should Celtic take a look at Liverpool hitman Divock Origi this summer if he continues to struggle in Germany?

It looks, at the moment, like Moussa Dembele could be staying at Celtic beyond the January transfer window. There has been plenty of speculation but the rumours have died down somewhat in recent weeks.

It surely only delays the inevitable though and if Celtic don’t lose him before Wednesday, they surely will at some point during the summer transfer window.

With that in mind, you would think – and hope – that Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers has been considering potential replacements for the Frenchman and could Divock Origi be a viable option next summer if Dembele leaves?

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp loaned Origi out to Wolfsburg at the start of this season but, considering he has only managed four goals in 1,222 minutes of Bundesliga football – and none since Novmeber – it’s entirely possible that the German outfit will not try and make the move a permanent one, unless his goalscoring form drastically improves.

By the same token, returning to Anfield on the back of an underwhelming stint in Germany’s top flight will hardly endear him to Klopp ahead of next season and the German coach might be willing to let him leave in some capacity again during the summer.

The Celtic boss is a fan of the Belgian striker and spent £10 million on bringing him to Liverpool in 2014, but Rodgers, who was sacked in October 2015, only had a couple of months to work with the youngster after he was loaned back to Lille for the 2014-15 campaign.

And you wonder if the Northern Irishman would be game for a reunion if Dembele leaves. Rodgers obviously felt at one point that he was good enough for Liverpool and although he hasn’t quite kicked on at Anfield, it doesn’t mean he couldn’t be a big hit in the Scottish Premiership.

Origi, who has 21 goals in 77 games for the Reds, would only have a year left on his contract come June and there is every chance that the Celtic manager could have a lot of money burning a hole in his pocket if and when Dembele leaves.
