Celtic pulled off a masterstroke signing Moussa Dembele, so perhaps they should look to repeat the trick by moving for a West Bromwich Albion starlet.
Of course, the report came out before Tony Pulis was sacked, so perhaps Roberts may be more willing on sticking around with Alan Pardew now at the helm if Pulis was a reason why he supposedly snubbed a new deal with the Baggies.
But if Roberts is certain to move, then perhaps Celtic should consider making a bid in the hope that they can replicate the masterstroke that was the deal to bring Moussa Dembele to Parkhead in 2016.
Dembele was out of contract at former club Fulham and despite attracting attention from some high-profile clubs – as reported by Sky Sports – he ended up moving to the Hoops, with the Scottish Premiership side paying just a compensation fee.
The deal meant that Dembele’s subsequent form has made him one of the best bargain signings in the club’s history, especially when you consider how much he could potentially command when Celtic sell him on.
Roberts may not prove to be as special a talent as Dembele, but considering his contract situation, he may still prove to be a bargain buy for any non-English club that may win the race to sign him.
He has been excellent on loan at Walsall this term, scoring five times from wide areas, and he appears to have the potential to get even better if he is working under the right manager.
Brendan Rodgers has shown that he can help players realise their full potential, so he may be the ideal boss for him, and Celtic should undoubtedly be an appealing option for a player during this trophy-laden spell that also includes European football – so surely Celtic should try their luck in the hope that Roberts is still reluctant to sign a new deal and fancies following in Dembele’s footsteps by going to Scotland to put himself on the map.
