Could Celtic and Joe Hart come to each other’s rescue before the close of the January window?

Celtic are in the market for a goalkeeper in the last few days of the transfer window after Craig Gordon suffered an injury in Saturday’s win over Hibernian.

According to The London Evening Standard, long-standing England number one Joe Hart is trying to find a new club after losing his place at West Ham United.

Could Hart and Celtic yet rescue each other before Wednesday’s deadline?

Jordan Pickford of Everton reacts during the Premier League match between Everton and West Ham United at Goodison Park on November 29, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

Competition to be England’s first choice at the World Cup in the summer is hotting up with Jordan Pickford and Jack Butland display good form at Everton and Stoke City respectively.

Hart is the incumbent, having earned 75 international caps in eight years, but must be sweating for his England future having not played in the Premier League since November.

West Ham’s defeat to third-tier Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup on Saturday could be Hart’s last appearance of the season if David Moyes keeps backing Adrian for league action.

Sky Sports reports that Gordon will be out for 12 weeks with a knee problem, leaving Dorus de Vries as Celtic’s only senior goalkeeper, something which Brendan Rodgers wants to address.

The Scottish champions remain in the Europa League so Hart would have both a domestic and European stage on which to impress Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate.

Hart’s parent club Manchester City would likely have to subsidise most of the 30-year-old’s wages if he made the switch to Parkhead and West Ham would have to find a replacement deputy.

But isn’t it worth Celtic asking the question?
