The Newcastle United defender would be a superb addition to the Glasgow Rangers squad.
Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha
Gers boss Pedro Caixinha has an incredibly difficult job ahead of him this summer, if he is to turn his team of underperforming flops into one that is capable of challenging Celtic and Aberdeen for the Scottish Premiership title next season.
One particular area of concern for Rangers is their leaky defence, and the Portuguese will surely be placing the addition of a top quality centre-back right at the very top of his priority list during the off-season.
The problem for the Glasgow giants, however, is that there is a serious shortage of funds at Ibrox, and unless they receive outside investment, Caixinha will have to be incredibly smart in the manner in which he goes about his recruitment.
With this in mind, a sensible option for Rangers could be Magpies centre-back Grant Hanley.
The 25-year-old moved to Newcastle from Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 2016, but has failed to establish himself at St James’ Park, making just five Championship starts all season long.
Newcastle United’s Grant Hanley celebrates
A Rangers fan, who had a spell at Ibrox as a youngster, Hanley would seemingly be the ideal addition to the Gers squad.
He is strong and powerful, capable in the air, and well-versed at leading his team from the back.
The former Blackburn captain possesses all of the qualities that Caixinha’s side are so desperately short of at present, and after it was reported that the Portuguese would like to bring up to 12 new players to Ibrox this summer, according to the Daily Record, the addition of Hanley could be the ideal way in which to start his recruitment drive.
