Kristian Dennis has thrived in a struggling Chesterfield Town side this season – but is he good enough for Sunderland?
With just one player in Sunderland’s squad scoring more than four Championship goals this season, one of Chris Coleman’s first priorities at the Stadium of Light might have been to enhance his attacking options in January.
And Sunderland’s need for a new striker might be exacerbated if, as TEAMtalk suggests, Bournemouth exercise the recall option they included in Lewis Grabban’s contract when loaning him to Wearside for the season.
The report claims that Bournemouth could take the 10-goal top scorer away from Sunderland and sell him to Wolves or Fulham.
But while Grabban has thrived in a struggling side, so too has Kristian Dennis. And, like Grabban the Chesterfield Town ace is set to be a man in demand during January – but has his excellent form in League Two helped him force his way onto Sunderland’s radar?
HITC sources told us that a number of Football league clubs are chasing Dennis, with Championship strugglers Burton Albion particularly keen. But with just six months remaining on his contract with The Spirerites, the 27-year-old could also be an astute addition for their cash-strapped fellow relegation battlers.
Dennis, who joined Chesterfield on a free from Macclesfield Town last year, has 13 goals in 23 games for a side currently bottom of the League Two table.
Dennis is a late bloomer whose form appears to be improving all the time, so Sunderland would be targeting him during the best period of his career.
