Burton Albion have now made two bids for St Mirren winger Lewis Morgan – a rising star who began his career at Rangers.
Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha
If Rangers are harbouring any doubts about their decision to release Lewis Morgan from their academy at the age of just 16, this is the time to show it.
Because The Scottish Sun claim that English Championship side Burton Albion have made a second bid of £250,000 for the 20-year-old wideman. And although St Mirren have dismissed their offer, it is expected that The Brewers will not give up hope just yet.
Perhaps they’re inspired by the excellent signing of another young midfielder from the Scottish top flight. After all, without the 10 goals of former Ross County midfielder Jackson Irvine in a fine debut campaign, Burton may not have retained their Championship status.
However, with the Daily Record reporting that wingers Harry Forrester and Barrie McKay are surplus to requirements at Rangers, a player with Morgan’s attributes could come in handy at Ibrox.
Harry Forrester played just seven minutes of football under Caixinha
Furthermore, netting 10 goals from out wide last season in the Scottish second tier, the Under-21 international could provide that goal threat Rangers are crying out for. Between them, McKay and Forrester struck just eight times in 2016/17, albeit against a higher standard of opposition.
And although Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has introduced a number of attacking options from Portugal, namely Benfica pair Daniel Candeias and Dalcio, he also admitted that he wants domestic based players with an understanding of the local game, as reported by the Scottish Sun.

Greenock-born Morgan certainly fits the bill.
The Daily Record report that, having sold Stevie Mallan to Barnsley, St Mirren are determined not to lose Morgan too. However, with just a year remaining on his contract, it’s up to Rangers to decide whether or not to tempt them into a sale.
