A recent report suggested that Stuart Armstrong was planning to leave Celtic at the end of his contract.

A recent report in The Sun recently suggested that Stuart Armstrong planned to leave Celtic once his contract at Parkhead came to an end at the end of next season. But even if leaving was on his radar, his recent, relatively cagey, comments regarding his future suggest that other developments at the club may help him change his mind.

Armstrong has been a revelation for the Hoops this term, so the reports would have surely worried the fans, and his recent comments surrounding his future (via Daily Mail) would have probably done little to alleviate those worries.

“It is important to say that I am very happy here and I am playing the best football I have ever played and very lucky to be playing under Brendan Rodgers,” he said, as reported by the Mail.

“The influence he has had in a very short space of time is phenomenal. I am sure it (contract) will take care of itself but my focus has always been on playing football and focusing on the next game.

“This season has been the best of my career to date.”

So while those comments would have initially done little to suggest that Armstrong was definitely not considering moving on next summer, those same comments could now be used to suggest that staying put will suddenly seem a much more attractive prospect given more recent events.

The club’s supporters were given yet another boost during this tremendous season just before the weekend with Rodgers signing a new four-year deal (via club’s official website).

If there was any truth in The Sun‘s reports regarding Armstrong’s future, he may have perhaps feared that Rodgers was destined to leave in the near future with his stock rising considerably since he arrived, and thus, felt that playing under another manager at Celtic would be difficult, especially given the struggles he endured working under Ronny Deila.

However, his clear admiration for Rodgers at least hints that the Northern Irishman’s decision to commit his future to the Hoops will have a big impact on what Armstrong decides is the best move for his career.
