West Brom reportedly bid for Charlie Taylor in January – but Leeds United’s young full-back may be concerned by the treatment of Brendan Galloway.
Neutrals may be wondering why Brendan Galloway, one of the most promising young defenders in English football, was restricted to just three Premier League appearances on loan at West Brom.
The talented full-back had his temporary spell at The Hawthorns cut short on Tuesday, meaning he returns to Everton having failed to feature in the top flight since September.
Though, according to the Birmingham Mail, that is not a result of manager Tony Pulis’ perceived refusal to embrace the attack-first style of modern full-backs. Instead, the newspaper claims that Galloway was slow to react to Callum Wilson’s winner in a defeat to Bournemouth before committing an almost identical error against West Ham a week later.
With that, the 21-year-old’s chance under Pulis had gone.
Therefore, Leeds United’s in-demand left-back should not be concerned that his penchant for lung-busting runs down the wing would hold him back if he chose West Brom in the summer. Although it’s clear that Pulis will demand 100 per cent concentration when asked to defend.
The Guardian reported in January that West Brom had a £7 million bid for Taylor rejected in the transfer window, but with his contract expiring at the end of the season, Leeds would be powerless to stop him moving to the Hawthorns.
And with Galloway now out of the picture, The Baggies are free to turn their attention towards pulling out all the stops to lure Taylor to the Midlands. The 24-year-old is a cultured, composed full-back renowned for his excellent crossing ability rather than his defensive awareness.
Therefore, he would have to improve on the latter if he is to avoid the same fate that befell Galloway at West Brom.
