Italy secured third in this year’s Nations League after a 2-1 win over Belgium. And Liverpool target Nicolo Barella was key to the victory for the hosts.
The Inter Milan star opened the scoring for the Azzurri in the second half after beating Thibaut Courtois with an excellent first-time volley.
With Domenico Berardi adding a second just moments later, it was a decisive moment for Italy in their Nations League win.
Whilst third-place games are usually ignored by supporters, it was an overall impressive performance for Barella. The midfielder shone in the summer for Euro 2020, and the Serie A star once again proved his quality this afternoon.
With Liverpool reportedly interested in the midfielder, it was also another showcase performance for Barella. The 24-year-old maestro was linked with a move to Anfield over the summer transfer window.
Indeed, the Reds were looking to replace Georginio Wijnaldum following the Dutchman’s departure to PSG. However, Liverpool are still yet to fill the void left by their former midfield star.

And with Barella impressing on an international stage, Liverpool fans on social media were once again pleading for the club to sign the Inter star. As per CalcioMercato, the Reds reportedly made a €70m (£59m) offer for the midfielder in the summer.
