Daniel Amartey is looking for a ‘way out’ at Leicester City with his time at the King Power Stadium set to come to an end, according to the Ghana international’s agent in quotes reported by Starr FM.
A versatile, all-action performer who moved to the Premier League from Copenhagen in a £6 million deal four years ago, it is fair to say few Foxes fans will be losing much sleep about Amartey’s impending departure.
After all, the 25-year-old has not made a single top-flight appearance all season under Brendan Rodgers – with Leicester cruising in the Champions League places – albeit largely due to injury.
Amartey also started just six and seven domestic matches in each of the previous two campaigns.
The Ghanaian’s contract is set to run until 2022 but Leicester, it seems, will not stand in his way if an offer from elsewhere arrives.
“Amartey has recovered (from his fitness problems) and we are looking to find new opportunities for him. He’s been out of favour under the new gaffer so we will see how best we can solve that issue,” Daniel Chisbah explains.
“He is still with the Foxes but he is not been getting more playing time due to the fact that he got injured but after his injury, they consider him as surplus so there should be a way out.”
There should not be a shortage of offers at least for a 26-capped international who is equally comfortable in midfield or at full-back.
Aston Villa were linked back in 2018, via the Telegraph. And considering that Dean Smith’s side have the worst defensive record in the Premier League, Villa could do a lot worse than to offer a player with Amartey’s technical and physical gifts a fresh start.
