Should Aston Villa renew interest in Leeds' Bridcutt 12 months on?

Nottingham Forest showing interest in Leeds midfielder Liam Bridcutt but should Aston Villa join the chase?

Having entered the final year of his current contract at Leeds United the future of Liam Bridcutt is in doubt and Nottingham Forest are considering a move, reports the Nottingham Post.

The Reds are hoping to capitalise on uncertainty over Bridcutt’s role at Elland Road under new head coach Thomas Christiansen to bring him to the City Ground for a cut-price fee.

The midfielder has failed to play any of Leeds’ three Championship fixtures this season despite being captain last term and although Christiansen says the 28-year-old remains in his plans, many feel the Yorkshire club could be tempted to sell.

Yet while Forest appear to lead the race currently, perhaps Aston Villa should renew their interest in Bridcutt – as reported by the Birmingham Mail at the time – after trying to sign the Scotland international from Sunderland last summer before he eventually joined the Whites, having enjoyed a successful loan spell with them in 2015/16.

After all, with the same newspaper claiming the Villans’ interest in Newcastle United’s Jack Colback, clearly the Birmingham outfit are in the market for a new central midfielder.

Bridcutt has plenty of Championship experience from stints with Leeds and Brighton and Hove Albion, but with Villa having promotion ambitions his game time with the Black Cats in the Premier League could also prove to be extremely useful.
