West Ham United reportedly will not be signing Joe Hart from Manchester City, so should Aston Villa renew their interest?

Joe Hart of West Ham United looks dejected following the Premier League match between Arsenal and West Ham United at Emirates Stadium on April 22, 2018 in London, England.

West Ham United will not be making Joe Hart’s move from Manchester City a permanent one this summer as the Metro reports the club have rejected the option to buy.

An agreement was written into the deal when Hart made the loan switch from City to the London Stadium for this season, but hasn’t done enough to impress those in charge at the Hammers.

After a string of poor performances the goalkeeper was dropped in December and was limited to cup outings only as Adrian took his place between the sticks for Premier League games.

Although Hart has recently regained his place West Ham still want to take an alternative route when it comes to signing a new stopper for next term.

What next?

Having struggled in East London the 31-year-old is likely to be running out of options in the top flight of English football and may even have to drop down into the Championship to achieve regular game time.

If that is the case then perhaps Aston Villa, who were linked with Hart by Birmingham Live last year, should renew their interest with their hope of signing current loanee Sam Johnstone from Manchester United permanently far from assured.

Villa are currently fourth in the table and guaranteed a playoff place so could well be playing in the top tier in 2018/19 in any case, but even if they don’t go up perhaps the Englishman would consider dropping down a division – just as John Terry did, to great success, this campaign.
