Derby County’s Andreas Weimann was expected to move back to Wolverhampton Wanderers, but Aston Villa could now swoop.
According to the Express and Star, Wolverhampton Wanderers have called off a deal to sign Andreas Weimann.
Wolves had set a price of £1.5 million to sign Weimann from Derby County on a permanent transfer, and he was expected to make a move to the Molineux.
However, the departure of Paul Lambert from Wolves has caused a re-think, with Nuno not keen on snapping up the attacker.
Weimann’s future now remains in doubt, and it could be that a return to Aston Villa becomes possible.
Derby do not seem to see a future for Weimann, but Villa could be an option for the Austrian.
The claret and blues let Weimann go back in 2015, and he still remains a fairly popular figure at Villa Park.
The 25-year-old came through Villa’s academy, and represented the Midlands side at senior level for five seasons, with his work rate always being credited.
With Steve Bruce now looking for additions, Weimann could come on to his radar.
And Villa fans may welcome a return for a player who would have a point to prove if he did come back to Villa Park.
