Should Aston Villa make move for Everton’s Gareth Barry

Everton midfielder Gareth Barry was heavily linked with a move to Aston Villa earlier this summer.

The door had seemingly shut on a potential return for Gareth Barry to Aston Villa, but Ronald Koeman’s latest comments on the experienced midfielder’s future at Everton may just suggest that a deal could be done.

Koeman told the Liverpool Echo yesterday that Barry could leave Goodison Park this summer, if he requests a move.

Barry is likely to be a reserve player this season at Everton, and although Koeman would like to keep the 36-year-old, the Dutch boss has suggested that a transfer could be possible.

And that could spark Steve Bruce and Aston Villa into action, after talk of a return died down.

Villa were linked with Barry in the early part of the transfer window, as per the Birmingham Mail, but Everton were seemingly not interested in doing business at that time.

Barry, himself, refused to rule out the possibility of a return to Villa when asked by the Birmingham Mail, but with Everton initially unwilling to let him leave, the rumours stopped.

However, Villa may just have more luck if they went back for the former England international again, and that may not be a bad move for Bruce’s side to make.

Of course, there is an argument to suggest that Villa’s squad needs youth not more experience.

But Barry’s return to Villa would spark great excitement and, after a poor start to the season, the transfer may be just what Villa need to get momentum back on their side.
