Aston Villa would arguably be wise to strengthen their striker options during the January transfer window.
Steve Bruce recently suggested in comments reported by the Daily Mail that Jonathan Kodjia is likely to be sidelined for a number of months due to an ankle injury – and that should perhaps leave Aston Villa with one priority during the January transfer window.
With Scott Hogan also sidelined, the Villans would be extremely wise to look to strengthen their striker options during the winter as they look to capitalise on their current position in the Championship.
And one player who should arguably be on their radar is Leicester City forward Leonardo Ulloa, who has endured a frustrating time at the King Power Stadium lately.
Ulloa has not played for the Foxes in the Premier League this season, making two appearances in the Carabao Cup, and the Daily Mirror reports that the £10 million signing may well be allowed to leave during the January window by new manager Claude Puel.
While a deal may perhaps be unlikely if teams are making permanent bids, Villa should therefore make a loan bid for the 31-year-old in the hope that he relishes the chance to get some regular minutes under his belt and scores the goals that help fire Villa to promotion.
Ulloa boasts a good record in the Championship, scoring 23 times in 50 league games for Brighton before sealing the move to Leicester in 2014.
And given that just 39 of his 82 top flight appearances have seen him feature from the start, his return of 18 goals at the highest level really is not too bad at all.
Arriving on loan will leave Ulloa with a point to prove and will give him the platform to put himself in the shop window for other teams, so Villa should certainly consider making a move in January as he could be the kind of player that could potentially fill the void that Kodjia’s injury has left.
