Aston Villa should ask about the Leicester City striker.
Kelechi Iheanacho joined Leicester City in a £25 million deal on Thursday.
It’s a big move by Leicester and one which could push striker Leonardo Ulloa closer to the exit door, the Argentine being behind Iheanacho and Jamie Vardy at the King Power next season.
As a consequence, the 31-year-old could be persuaded to leave the former Premier League champions – and Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce should have a word.
Only three teams in the Championship managed less than Aston Villa’s 47 goals last season and it’s clear that Bruce needs another option to relieve Jonathan Kodjia of the goalscoring burden.
The Villans have had a decent summer on the transfer front but not one of their five signings could be considered a goal threat, with Ahmed Elmohamady being the only arrival who resembles anything close to an attacking player.
Plus, Bruce wouldn’t have to break the bank to get him, given Ulloa’s contract expires next summer, but he would have to move fast amid reports from The Mail that Leicester want to tie him down to an extension. It seems unlikely he would sign, though, if he wants to play football.
The South American, a Premier League champion in 2016, helped fire the Foxes to promotion in 2014, netting 14 goals and then another 11 during their return to the big time.
According to Transfermarkt, Ulloa could be available for £5.4 million and Aston Villa should certainly consider him.
He has the pedigree and the experience to be a big asset for the West Midland side as they battle to escape the Championship at the right end.
