Aston Villa beat Celtic to John McGinn last summer.

Last summer Aston Villa took advantage of Celtic’s dithering to swoop for Hibernian’s John McGinn.

It was an outstanding decision, with McGinn playing a key role in Villa’s promotion campaign.

Now as Celtic stumble over an on-off move for Motherwell’s David Turnbull, Aston Villa themselves should consider a taking potential flyer on the midfielder.

Turnbull, 19, scored an impressive 15 goals in 31 games for Motherwell last season from midfielder.

For a teenager in any league that is impressive output.

The Herald last night reported Celtic’s move is off, after being unable to agree personal terms despite reaching a £3 million consensus with Motherwell.

Villa should take a look for a player who has the potential to back up Jack Grealish in midfield.

The Daily Record last night reported Villa’s fellow promoted side Norwich City have entered the running and also had a bid accepted by Motherwell.

After the success Villa had with signing a top talent from the Scottish Premiership last season, it would make a lot of sense to make a late pitch for Turnbull and repeat their success.
