Should Arsenal try to re-sign Emmanuel Adebayor?

Adebayor’s permanent deal to Tottenham could be off because of his wage demands, should Arsenal swoop for their former player?

Emmanuel Adebayor was not thrilled about joining Tottenham at the start of the season, making clear he saw it as just a job.

Spurs were after all the team he scored for fun against for North London rivals Arsenal, as well as for Real Madrid during his loan spell.

He has scored 12 goals for Tottenham this season, and settled in there, but a lack of clarity over his future has clouded the issue.

Reports are emerging today that Spurs are preparing to pull the plug on the deal, and are unwilling to match the Togo striker’s desired wages.

So if he does not go to Spurs, what next?

Well Manchester City are unlikely to want to keep him, there was never any love lost between himself and Mancini.

Liverpool? Too similar to Andy Carroll in style. Chelsea? He could be an unlikely replacement for Didier Drogba, although the club are likely to want a younger player.

The most unlikely of the lot could be a return to Arsenal.

It couldn’t happen, could it?

Arsene Wenger has surprised everybody before, re-signing Sol Campbell and Thierry Henry, but Adebayor would be a different proposition.

Adebayor went from being loved to hated by Arsenal fans in an instance, when he ran the length of the pitch to celebrate after scoring against them for Manchester City.

That was back in 2009, now older and wiser, if he were to go back to could easily beg forgiveness.

His stamp on Robin van Persie in that same match could be another hurdle, but as we have mentioned it was three years ago, and if the unthinkable did happen, both players would surely remain professional and put any differences aside.

Adebayor could be a useful back-up striker for Wenger’s side. Imagine an Arsenal front three of Van Persie, Podolski, and Adebayor. Far stronger than Van Persie, Chamakh, Park.

He could be available for as little as £8 million and could be a bargain. Assuming Arsenal sign Podolski, would there be a better third choice striker on the market for the same price, who could guarantee goals?

Even if the fans don’t take to him, it can’t be any more difficult than winning over the Spurs supporters, right?

We are quite realistic that this is unlikely to happen, but in football you never know.

Should Arsenal go back in for Adebayor?
