Arsenal have been linked with the in-demand Lyon hitman again.
Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette has told a Facebook Q&A that a lack of Champions League football would not be a “dealbreaker” for him when deciding his future.
The 26-year-old hitman grabbed 37 goals in all competitions last season and the Ligue 1 side could struggle to keep him in France beyond the summer.
The Frenchman is linked to Arsenal on a yearly basis at this point, and The Sun claimed on Monday that he was in talks with the Gunners over a summer switch.
If those reports are wide of the mark then Lacazette certainly invited Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to make a move with comments in a Facebook Q&A.
The North Londoners will not have Champions League football next season for the first time in Wenger’s 21-year reign and in addition to claiming that a move to the Premier League ‘interested’ him, Lacazette also stipulated that it was not essential for him to compete in Europe’s elite competition next term.
“Is the Champions League a dealbreaker for my choice? No, but it is important,” he said. “In making my choice, I will look at my position [in my next club], if there are not too many players, so I won’t be benched and I will be able to play.
“The Premier League is interesting. That does not mean I will go, and that does not mean I will refuse to go.”
Lacazette is a fine talent and he would have no problem getting regular game time at Arsenal.
Aside from Alexis Sanchez, who is equally as lethal from a wide role as he is centrally, Wenger does not have an abundance of qualities number nines to compete with Lacazette.
Olivier Giroud is the best of a mediocre bunch comprised of him, Danny Welbeck and Lucas Perez, and the Lyon ace should, in theory, find it easy to get games.
