Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are level on points in the Premier League table.

Spurs are reportedly readying a bid for Real Madrid star Isco in the summer, according to the Mirror, and if they manage to bring the 24-year-old to White Hart Lane, it could be the final nail in the coffin for the Gunners as far as the power shift in north London is concerned.

Arsene Wenger, or whoever is in charge at the Emirates in the summer, should challenge Pochettino for the signature of the Spain international, and could steal a march on Tottenham, by offering Mesut Ozil in return.

The German continues to disappoint Arsenal fans with his lackadaisical attitude to playing the game and, despite some moments of brilliance, his place in the team really is beginning to become detrimental to their chances of victory.

His performances have once again tailed off during the second half of the season, partly due to Wenger playing him for 90 minutes in every game, and partly due to the fact that he just does not seem to have the natural athleticism that is required to be a success on a consistent basis in English football.

And Isco would arguably be an upgrade on Ozil, as far as their all-round contribution to the team is concerned.

The Real Madrid man would be a superb addition to the Gunners squad.

He is incredibly skilful when in possession of the football, has exceptional vision, and his quick-thinking football brain would be ideally suited to the fast combination style football that Arsenal play.

He would also put in far more of a shift than Ozil, with his physical attributes being more suited to the Premier League than the Germany international’s.

Isco moved to the Bernabeu in the summer of 2013, and has gone on to make 165 appearances for Los Blancos.

During that time he has scored 27 goals and chipped in with 31 assists – a fairly impressive record when it is considered that 47 of his appearances for Madrid have come from the substitutes bench.

A move to one of the two north London sides could see him reach new levels though, and the Gunners should do everything within their power to bring him to the Emirates.

If Spurs win the race of his signature, however, Arsenal could very well be left in their dust next season.
