Some Liverpool supporters are eager to see Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain start for the club in their big match against Manchester City at the weekend.

The Reds host Pep Guardiola’s side hoping to go nine points clear at the top of the table.

However, City have ambitions of their own and know a victory at Anfield brings them right back into the English Premier League title hunt.

How Jurgen Klopp sets up his team and who he selects for the encounter will be absolutely crucial.

It’s Oxlade-Chamberlain’s name on the lips of some fans after some outstanding contributions to the Liverpool cause over the last few weeks.

He’s scored four goals in his last four matches in all competitions, with the Liverpool boss opting to use him primarily in the Champions League and League Cup.

Despite that, his selection against City is far from certain. He’s not started a Premier League match since September, with Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Gini Wijnaldum often preferred instead.

The player received a big boost on Thursday after receiving a call up to the England national team, having only won one cap over the last 18 months, primarily because of injury and fitness problems.
