Leeds United wanted to sign Bristol City talisman Aden Flint this summer – but he will stay at Ashton Gate for another four months at least.

Bristol City will have been mightily relieved that Aden Flint was still at Ashton Gate as the transfer window closed at the start of this month.

The towering centre-back has been linked with countless clubs in the top two divisions of English football after another impressive season in which he helped The Robins avoid relegation from the Championship.

And the 28-year-old proved his worth once again as he capped a Man of the Match performance with a late headed winner away at Reading on Saturday – producing the kind of impenetrable performance that encouraged Leeds United to make an enquiry about his availability last month, as reported by The Mirror.

And Flint has admitted that, while having a huge amount of admirers can have its downsides, he is glad his form is being recognised.

‘Flattering’

“It’s been a stressful few months with everything being up in the air,” the centre-back, reputedly valued at around £7 million, told Bristol City’s official website. “There has been a lot of interest, which is flattering. But I’ve just got my head down and worked hard.

“Some other people might have chosen not to speak to me, but the gaffer has been great throughout, keeping me informed of what was going on.”

Leeds, meanwhile, have kept clean sheets in each of their last five Championship fixtures after shutting out Burton Albion in Saturday’s 5-0 thrashing, the club’s biggest win since 2004.

However, there remains a lack of depth at centre-half with Everton loanee Matthew Pennington injured since the opening day of the season, meaning Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper will need to avoid injury or suspension like the plague.

And Flint, a real talismanic figure at Bristol City, would surely have been a fine addition. Though, with the defender admitting he is flattered by the interest, Leeds could do worse than to keep on tracking his progress.
