Adam Lallana made his long awaited returned from injury at the weekend, coming off the bench in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

The England midfielder has missed the entire season so far with a thigh injury which he picked up in pre-season.

Lallana came on in the final couple of minutes although Jurgen Klopp wanted to make the change earlier and is still angry at the referee for denying him the substitution was reported in the Independent.

Nevertheless, Lallana’s return is a welcomed one for the Reds. James Milner told the Liverpool Echo that Lallana is a ‘massive player for Liverpool, who makes them tick with and without the ball.’

Lallana provides energy and creativity in the midfield and can slot into a number of positions. His return has come at a time when Jordan Henderson’s form has been questioned, particularly after his part during Liverpool’s collapse in Sevilla.

While it’s unlikely Klopp will drop his captain, Lallana is probably the ideal man to replace him having played at lot of games there in Henderson’s absence last season.

Liverpool travel to Stoke City this evening, looking to extend their league unbeaten run to five matches. Klopp rung the changes against Chelsea and he may do that again. Lallana had his best season in a Liverpool shirt last campaign, it was his highest scoring (eight goals) and his highest in terms of league appearances (31).

Paul Pogba went straight back into Manchester United’s starting XI following his return from injury. Lallana has already made a substitute appearance. He was arguably as influential as Pogba to Liverpool prior to his injury and as Liverpool have drawn their last two games, the 29-year-old could be the man to give them that bit of cutting edge against the Potters.
