Tim Sherwood has claimed that Antonio Conte could leave Tottenham at the end of the season, as he told Premier League Daily.
The former Spurs boss controversially claimed that this could be the ’shortest marriage ever’ between the two.
Spurs appointed Conte earlier this month – at the second time of asking – after parting ways with Nuno Espirito Santo.
After helping Inter win their first Serie A title in a decade last season, it was clear that the stock of Conte’s was pretty high.
That included talk, both in the rumour mill and from fans, that Conte could head to Manchester United or they want him at Old Trafford.
But Sherwood thinks Conte could be out of the door by the summer, and if he’s not, then he thinks he will be in North London for the whole three-year period of his contract.
“Could he still go to Man United next season?” asked Sherwood.
“I think he didn’t join (Man United) in the summer because he was emotionally attached to Inter, it was because he was flushing out Man United and they never come.
“I think this can be the shortest marriage ever. I think it can go either way. I don’t think it’s 18 months or over.
“I think he stays for the three years or he leaves at the end of the season.”
It would be quite the shock if Conte upped and left anytime within the next 12 months, unless Daniel Levy personally boots him out.
The Italian is a pretty committed character and he doesn’t seem the type to walk out on a situation if he is wanted.
Conte has, as he proved with Inter, that if he’s not happy with what is happening, then he will pack his bags.
But he has clearly opted to jump on board because a lot of promises have been made to him, and if they stick, then he isn’t the type to leave, regardless of who comes knocking.
