Celtic won’t sell Scott Allan on a permanent deal this summer – after a disastrous spell at Rotherham United, the midfielder is heading to Dundee on loan.

Scott Allan leaving Celtic was perhaps one of the least surprising moves of the summer transfer market. After all, the 25-year-old midfielder is clearly not a part of Celtic’s short-term plans.
Having played just nine times in the league in a disappointing debut season, Allan was farmed out to Rotherham United in the summer. And it’s fair to say that spell in Yorkshire didn’t exactly revive a stuttering career.
Making just ten Championship appearances, Allan did not feature from January onwards as The Millers were relegated in humiliating fashion, accumulating the lowest points in a second tier season since three were introduced for a win.
Therefore, another season on loan, this time at Dundee, offers Allan a second chance to get his career back on track.
Yet, despite a dreadful couple of years, the fact that Celtic appear unwilling to let the former Hibernian star leave on a permanent basis suggests that they still have some belief that Allan can make the grade.
Rodgers is a fan
Though he is yet to play a single minute of competitive football under Brendan Rodgers, it’s clear that the Celtic manager rates the midfielder very highly.
“I really like what I’ve seen of him,” Rodgers stated during the club’s pre-season tour of Slovenia, as reported by the Daily Record.

“Scott will definitely stay. He’s a good player who I saw when he was at West Brom.”
Rodgers was hardly true to his word, with Allan leaving for Rotherham just a few weeks later. However, it appears that the midfielder cannot be written off just yet.
Who knows, if he impresses at Dundee, a second chance at Celtic could be his reward.
