Chris Sutton has predicted on BBC Sport that the match between Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United and Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool this weekend will end in a draw.

Newcastle and Liverpool will face each other at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Saturday.

Eddie Howe’s side are fourth in the Premier League table at the moment with 41 points from 22 matches.

Newcastle have drawn their last two Premier League games against Bournemouth away and West Ham United at home.

Meanwhile, Liverpool currently find themselves ninth in the standings with 32 points from 21 matches.

Jurgen Klopp’s side won 2-0 against Everton at Anfield in the Merseyside derby on Monday.

Former Chelsea striker and BBC Sport pundit Sutton believes that the game between Newcastle and Liverpool will end in a 1-1 draw.

Sutton wrote: “Have Liverpool turned the corner with Monday’s win over Everton? I am not sure about that.

“Jurgen Klopp’s side did look more like their old selves, especially with the way they counter-attacked, but their defence was not exactly stretched.

“The question with Newcastle is whether they are just running out of steam. They looked short of energy against Bournemouth last time out.

“Bruno Guimaraes, who is still suspended, is a big miss too. They just don’t have the same control in midfield without him.

“Liverpool are the only team to have beaten Newcastle in the league this season. I don’t see them doing the double – but I am going to sit on the fence and go with a draw.”

Who will win?

We think that Newcastle United will edge past Liverpool at St. James’ Park in the Premier League this weekend.

Yes, the Reds won this week, but the Magpies are defensively very mean and will have home advantage for the game.

Newcastle have conceded just 13 goals in 22 Premier League games all season.

Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United all have shipped in more goals.

Now, of course, we know that Liverpool have a good attacking unit, but if Newcastle can keep strong at the back, then they could get a goal at the other end and pick up all three points from the encounter.
