Chris Sutton has stated that Arsenal defender, Ben White, has to be a ‘shoo-in’ for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The former Blackburn title-winner added that White has had a ‘really good season’ in Arsenal colours this term.

Last summer, when those in the north London boardroom put big money on the table for White’s talents, there were a lot of question marks around his transfer.

But, fast forward to today, White is chasing Champions League football and he has been recalled by England.

Nonetheless, with the 2022 World Cup set to take place in November, Sutton made it clear that White has to go, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

“Good to hear from Ben White,” said Sutton. “But I think he has had a really good season.

“If I am Gareth Southgate, and you are seeing his versatility, then he is going to be a shoo-in for the squad, isn’t he?”

The centre-back spot is one of the more problematic areas for England because there is a lack of quality in that department.

Someone like Harry Maguire, who has done very well for England, including at Euro 2020, has seriously struggled in Manchester United colours this season.

But, there are many who feel that someone like White, who has been solid at the heart of Arsenal’s defence, alongside Gabriel, should be picked ahead of the Man United captain.

Either way, White’s recall to the Three Lions set-up is proof that he is on course to earn that all-important plane ticket to Qatar.
