West Bromwich Albion-owned Salomon Rondon featured for Newcastle United at the weekend.
Rondon joined Newcastle on a season-long loan deal from Championship side West Brom in the summer transfer window and made his debut for the Magpies against Tottenham at St. James’ Park this past Saturday afternoon.
The 28-year-old striker came on as a substitute against Tottenham at St. James’ Park on 59 minutes, as the Magpies lost 2-1.
The Venezuela international striker’s debut for the Magpies was quite good, as the former Rubin Kazan and Zenit Saint Petersburg star looked lively and also came close to scoring.
Former Newcastle striker Ameobi was impressed with the display produced by Rondon, who joined West Brom from Zenit in the summer of 2015 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £12 million.
Shola Ameobi said on Sky Sports Premier League this past Saturday afternoon (2:38pm, August 11, 2018) about Rondon during the post-match analysis of the game: “I thought he did well. He held the ball up. He’s always going to be a difficult customer to play against.”
Encouraging start
Newcastle must be disappointed to have lost to Tottenham at home, but the fans should be encouraged by the performance of the team.
The Magpies did have chanced to earn a point from the encounter, and Rafael Benitez’s side made it hard for Spurs to win the match.
