Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter in baffled fashion after Paul Merson made a ‘ridiculous’ comment in his column for the Daily Star.
The former Arsenal man was writing ahead of Sunday’s north London derby between Jose Mourinho and Mikel Arteta’s men.
Merson said: “I think Arsenal are favourites against them this weekend. I really do. If both teams play to the best of their ability I think Arsenal win the game. I think their passing and movement is better. Spurs rely too much on Harry Kane and Heung-min Son, and lately Gareth Bale.”
Now, we’re not exactly sure how you can be too reliant on three players for goals, all of whom are attackers.
If it was just Kane scoring the goals, and Merson said Spurs were too reliant on him, then fair enough.
However, the fact that the goals are being spread out all across the frontline is almost the opposite of being ‘too reliant’ – Tottenham have multiple sources of which a goal could come from.

Does he also think Tottenham are too reliant on Hugo Lloris to make saves?
Of course he doesn’t, but that suggestion would carry just as much weight as his remark about Son, Kane and Bale.
One fan described the statement as ‘stupid’ while another was simply left saying ‘wow’ after hearing the ex-Gunners man’s comments.

Tottenham have constructed one of Europe’s best front threes, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the fact they score the majority of the club’s goals.
