Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to react after news of Patrick Vieira’s imminent move to Crystal Palace broke.
What’s the story?
Well, according to The Athletic, the Eagles are close to hiring the 45-year-old as their replacement for Roy Hodgson.
It means the south Londoners will have found a new manager before Tottenham, despite Spurs having more time to search for one.
José Mourinho’s departure was announced on April 19th, whereas it was announced Hodgson would be leaving SE25 on May 18th.
Vieira has agreed a three-year deal at Selhurst Park.
His appointment comes after Lucien Favre was close to being hired, only to perform a dramatic U-turn.
Nuno Espirito Santo – who was in talks with Spurs – was also close to being hired, but a deal fell through.
Daniel Levy mustn’t panic
Make no mistake about it, Daniel Levy has made a real mess of his search for Mourinho’s replacement.
However, in our view, if we supported Tottenham, we’d much rather Levy wait for a better option instead of hiring someone like Vieira.
The Frenchman was sacked from his last role at OGC Nice, having only managed New York City before that.
Of course, Tottenham are fishing in a different pond to Crystal Palace.
Having said that, it doesn’t mean that an abundance of top-class managers are there for Tottenham to choose from either.
