Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to react after seeing what Patrick Bamford said to Peter Bankes during the 2-0 win over Southampton.

The Leeds No.9 attempted to dribble round Alex McCarthy during the win over the Saints, and was made to stumble by the Southampton No.1.

Admirably, Bamford tried to stay on his feet but was ultimately punished for doing so, as he neither scored or won a penalty.

On Twitter, footage emerged of the 27-year-old speaking to Bankes.

You don’t have to be an expert in lipreading to see what he said.

Bamford can clearly be seen saying: “So I have to dive?”

Sadly, that is the case in football.

We saw another incident of this ilk – again involving McCarthy – when Manchester City’s Phil Foden dribbled round him, only to be fouled.

However, the England international tried to stay on his feet, missed his chance due to being off balance, and no spot-kick was given.

All this does is encourage diving, which nobody wants to see.

Don’t be surprised to see Bamford throwing himself to the turf from now on – we wouldn’t even blame him if he did.

He’s shown that he wants to be an honest player, but evidently, that isn’t going to get you what you deserve.

Referees need to start giving these incidents as penalties, or the stain on our game that is diving will continue to be seen.

Let’s see what the Leeds fans on Twitter have been saying about the footage…
