Aston Villa attacking midfielder Emiliano Buendia has said on talkSPORT (11:35am, November 19, 2021) that he was shocked at the decision to sack Dean Smith.
What’s the story?
Smith was sacked as the Villa manager at the start of the international break.
It came after the Villans’ 1-0 defeat to Southampton.
It was Villa’s fifth successive defeat in the Premier League this season.
Steven Gerrard was subsequently appointed as the Villa boss.
The former Liverpool midfielder left his role at Rangers to move to Villa Park.
Emiliano Buendia’s verdict
Villa star Buendia has said that he was shocked when the club decided to sack Smith.
The 24-year-old Argentine attacking midfielder has admitted that he was sad to see Smith go.
Buendia said on talkSPORT (11:35am, November 19, 2021): “In my case it was a shocking situation. I just worked with him a short period, but I learned really good things from him.
“He taught me what it means to play for this club, and he gave me the chance to play for this club, and I was really pleased with him. Really sad that he had to leave, but this is football.”
Moving on
It was Smith who signed Buendia, who earns £75,000 per week (Spotrac), in the summer of 2021.
The Argentine has made seven starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League so far this season.
The 24-year-old has scored one goal and provided one assist in those games.
Buendia clearly enjoyed working with Smith, who is a Villa fan.
However, it is now time to move on.
Gerrard is now in charge of Villa.
