Blackpool boss Neil Critchley was not happy with Leeds United youngster Joe Gelhardt last night, as he felt his ‘shocking’ challenge went unpunished, as per his comments to the Blackpool Gazette.
Leeds’ youngsters were beaten 3-0 by Blackpool in their EFL Trophy last night, despite Critchley’s side being reduced to ten men.
Blackpool’s Cameron Antwi was sent off when he lunged into a tackle on Leeds youngster Crysencio Summerville.
But Critchley felt that the game should have been stopped before Antwi had the opportunity to make a challenge.
Gelhardt, who Leeds signed from Wigan in the summer, snapped into a tackle moments beforehand, which he felt was reckless.
“I was really disappointed with that, I’ve got to be honest. I really thought the referee let him down,” Blackpool’s manager said.

“I thought the tackle before that was a shocking tackle. It was over the top of the ball and it should never have got to that point.”
Gelhardt’s tackle was only one footed, but it arguably was slightly over the top of the ball, and could have been called a foul on another day.
Leeds’ defeat to Blackpool means that they have exited the EFL Trophy at the first stage.
