Aston Villa fans have reacted to the rumour that Ollie Watkins is set to miss out on Gareth Southgate’s 26-man England squad for Euro 2020.

Planet Football report that Villa’s number nine could be set for some bad news today, with the final cut to be announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Harry Kane, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Watkins are England’s three out-and-out strikers, with the likes of Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford also able to play that number nine role.

But it seems Villa’s 14-goal Premier League striker, who was selected ahead of the likes of Patrick Bamford and Danny Ings in the 33-man squad, will now be watching the Three Lions from home.

Given the form of the likes of Raheem Sterling and Rashford, it has annoyed some Villa fans that their player could be axed before them.

But whilst Sterling has had a pretty poor campaign in Manchester City colours this season, it does seem as though past experiences and form will get him on that plane to the Euros.

If Watkins does get the chop then he needs to use it as fuel to remember how far he has come during these past 12 months.

Last season, he was losing a Championship play-off final against Fulham, and now he’s worried about whether he will be selected by his country for the Euros – he has come a long way in a short space of time.

Here is a selection of Villa fans reacting to the rumours about Watkins:
