Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to reveal that they think Sean Longstaff should’ve fouled Timo Werner in the build-up to Chelsea’s second goal this afternoon.

The Germany international breezed past the 23-year-old and Federico Fernandez, before slotting Tammy Abraham in to slot home via the post.

Werner had nobody but three Newcastle players and Abraham ahead of him when he raced over the halfway line, but that didn’t stop him from assisting the ex-Swansea striker.

Newcastle fans are right. Fouling opponents certainly isn’t something that should be encouraged, but tactical fouls are part of the game.

If Longstaff had just blocked the former RB Leipzig attacker’s path, or gently tripped him up, it’s possible that he wouldn’t have even got a yellow card given how far away from goal Werner was.

It also would’ve allowed the Magpies to regroup and get bodies behind the ball.

Instead, Chelsea’s £47.5 million summer signing was allowed to race towards goal unchallenged, which proved costly for Steve Bruce’s side.

Let’s see what the Newcastle fans on Twitter were saying to Longstaff after the 65th-minute moment…
