Liverpool maintained their brilliant run of form by hammering Southampton 4-0 at Anfield on Saturday.
But there was a moment of controversy after 11 minutes when Jan Bednarek escaped a potential red card.
He commited quite a nasty challenge on Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane, catching the back of his leg with his studs.
Referee Andre Marriner booked him and there didn’t seem to be a VAR review of the challenge, despite Mane’s protests by showing the official the wound.
And some Liverpool fans are furious on Twitter, arguing that it was a straight red card.
Gloss over
It’ll get glossed over a little because Jurgen Klopp’s side still won by four goals.
But this could’ve very easily seriously damaged the Liverpool forward and just because it didn’t, doesn’t detract from the vicious nature of it.
Nobody is saying that Bednarek intentionally tried to harm Mane, but when is there ever malicious attempt in a tackle which leads to injury?
And let’s face it, the last thing Liverpool need rightt now is another absence, particularly coming into the December period.
Klopp’s side, who won 4-0 at home to Arsenal last weekend, moved second in the Premier League table, one point behind Chelsea after beating the Saints.
