Arsenal might be reconsidering their position about signing Georginio Wijnaldum.

The Dutch midfielder has been linked with a transfer to Arsenal in recent months.

According to The Telegraph in January, the Gunners were winning the race to sign the former Liverpool midfielder last month but a move to North London never quite materialised.

And if Mikel Arteta or Edu were watching him last night, it probably never will happen.

Paris Saint-Germain suffered a shock 3-1 defeat by Nantes and L’Equipe savaged a number of visiting players in their ratings.

With Lionel Messi only managing a 4/10, suffice to say that Wijnaldum wasn’t going to get off lightly – and he wasn’t.

The French publication gave the Arsenal-linked star a dismal 2/10 for his performance in the defeat.

Gunners right to snub him

Not only because of this performance, but because honestly, Arsenal don’t need him.

The Emirates Stadium outfit have just gotten rid of one big earner over the age of 30 in the form of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

And quite honestly, signing another in the form of Wijnaldum – who earns £180,000 per week in Paris – wouldn’t have made that much sense.

Arsenal did indeed want a midfielder and time will tell if failing to sign one will cost them Champions League qualification.

But for now, Arteta and Edu will be pleased to be without Wijnaldum.
